On Tuesday 17th, the School is honored to welcome Yolaine Escande, Director of Research at the CNRS and Deputy Director of the Centre de recherches sur les arts et le langage (CRAL), for a conference on the theme of “creation in the absence of action”, from 15:00 to 17:00; sumi-e will take place from 17:30 to 19:00.
Here is a summary of the talk:
“Creating without acting, or the way of the Tao in Chinese art”
While artistic creation in the Chinese graphic arts, painting and calligraphy, proceeds from a doing or an act, performed by the hand wielding the brush, theory constantly emphasizes the “absence of action”. This paradox will be examined through an analysis of the creative process.
Traditional breakfast (genmai) is included in the price for those participating in the morning meditation (before the morning sumi-e), dinner with the evening meditation (after the afternoon sumi-e).
Lunch is included in the price for those participating in the full day of sumi-e painting.
A break is provided during the morning and afternoon sumi-e practice.
